I'm so jittery and worked up about Deathly Hallows it's absolutely rediculous! And it really galls me that at this very moment people are already reading the book, or at least have it in their possession. As for me? I have to work tomorrow morning, and really don't want to go to work after being up all night reading, and I CAN'T go to work half-way done with the book, so I'll be picking it up as soon as I get out tomorrow afternoon. I'm house/pet-sitting this weekend, and will hole myself up with the book and be prepared to cry my little heart out. I know I will, whether characters I love die or not, this is IT. The end. As the icon says, Game Over. And oh, I won't be able to bear it if Harry dies!

It's all I can think about... Deathly Hallows...

I'm not even diverted by this:

I'm actually not a Potter-fan (ducks for any blows ;) but WHOA, your Sleepy Hollow turned out so great! It looks very true to the original. What fabric did you use, is it silk? I'm debating whether to use the Exclusive Silks' taffeta who's stripes are a bit too broad or whether to wait around for the perfect fabric that will probably never show... :) But kudos to your stripes, and matching them up! Well done!

BTW, exclusive_silks are definitely getting more of the fabric. Not that that will help you make up your mind. :-)

Thanks! I used a poly-cotton blend that we (most fortunately) happened to carry at work. The stripes aren't as subtle as the silk taffeta that Maggie is using, but they do happen to be the right width. We just got a new bolt in, and we're selling it at 5.99 a yard. Field's Fabrics doesn't list it on their website, but if you want to consider it instead of the silk, I'd be willing to be a middleman. :-)

Oh also: How do you close it? Is it pinned along one of the sides or something?

Your dress is absolutely gorgeous! So fabulous! But of course, everything is eclipsed by Harry Potter.

Oh my gosh, you look awesome!!!

Did you do two-piece sleeves? I'm working on them now. I'm seriously low on fabric, so I may have to post-pone the ruffle in the back of the skirt. They are re-ordering fabric. I think I have just enough for the sleeves, and I'll need some for the trim. Eek! But seriously, yours looks amazing!!!

Thanks!

And yes, I did do two piece sleeves... long, tight sleeves made from a non-stretchy fabric would be horribly uncomfortable if all one piece! Has to have the bend at the elbow. :-)

Now I just have to make myself do all the boring "finishings".

I had such a hard time with the sleeves and matching the stripes and fitting them. I don't know why. Well, I've never done 2 part sleeves before. But still. They were a bear. Yours looks great!

I mostly just have to do the trim - and that back flounce.

I'm sure you get comments like this all the time, but would it be possible to commission the Sleepy Hollow dress from you? I know the materials are expensive and it would take some time to make, but I really love this gown and yours is by far the most accurate reproduction I've seen. I'm blown away by this picture and you're not even finished it yet!

You're very kind. Unfortunately, as much as I hate to disappoint, I simply have no time for commissions. It's as much as I can do to find the time to create my own costumes, let alone sew for other people! I can't possibly consider doing commissions until I'm out of college. I'm very sorry.

I understand. ;_; Please don't feel bad, though. I still think you're amazing! May I ask what pattern you're using in case I have another seamstress make it for me or (heaven forfend) I try to make it myself?

Thank you. :-) I didn't use a commercial pattern; I drafted one myself, mostly basing it off one of the 18th cen dresses in Jean Hunnisett's book Period Patterns for Stage and Screen: 1500-1800. I'm afraid I won't be much help in that regard, though I believe Patterns of Time (http://www.patternsoftime.com/) has a good pattern or two that closely resembles this dress.

That's impressive. I'm nowhere near pattern drafting. O_O

Thank you for the link! Maybe this polonaise pattern (http://www.patternsoftime.com/proddetail.asp?prod=PI420) would work. One question... is the Sleepy Hollow gown made of three pieces (polonaise, petticoat, & stays)? I know the answer must seem obvious, but I'm just beginning to wrap my mind around the idea.
