Freezing, freezing, freezing....*pouts*.....I know I complain every winter, but I really hate walking to class these days. Yesterday was about 14 degrees, and today it has 'warmed up' to the mid-twenties....which still makes me cranky and destroys every shred of energy I might otherwise possess. I was not born to live in MI.

I like school, but I'm so tired of classes. I just want to be surrounded by my wonderful illustration 'family' and make art. Just....make art.

I'm just a little bit at loose ends today and yesterday.

There will be time for a hundred visions and revisions before the taking of toast and tea.

Winter at college

How well I remember having to walk across an oh-so-artfully designed campus to get to class in way below freezing weather. I went to UMASS Amherst for years and years (and am thinking about going back...but that's another story)...did you know: way back in the day when the university administration decided to build all the buildings, they wanted their campus to be famous and pleasing. So, they hired I. M. Pei to come and design all the buildings and lay out the campus. After they realized what it would cost to have Pei design the buildings, they opted for just having him lay out the campus. So he did. Then, presumably because of further cost cuts and a severe case of no-common-sense, they administrators had the buildings rearranged again. Not by Pei. The outcome? A veritable windtunnel down one of the most highly travelled paths. It's a corridor of blinding cold that takes your breath away. You want to leap into the balmy 10F, out of the way of the wind. I am sure that it could be used for acclimating explorers and scientists to the weather of the Antarctic.

I do not miss it. At all.

Have classes started up again for you? Anything interesting this semester that will keep general class-boringness at bay?

I'm VERY glad I don't go to your old school...the only real problem with the layout of my campus is that the art building is as far away as possible from the other buildings...it's sad how many people attend the school that don't even know it exists.

And yeah, this is nearly the end of the second week of classes of the semster. And I DO have interesting classes...I love what I'm learning, I just wish I was able to learn it on my own.

Come visit me at my house where it's warmer! Or at least, if not warmer, much less windy than on campus. :)

Maybe hopefully someday soon?

And it least it wasn't windy today...we can be grateful for that!

What're you doing this weekend or next?

Also, you kidding me? I almost died of windburn coming out of MAK and heading PAC-ward to my car!

Next weekend I'm working, but this weekend all I have planned is homework. Fun fun. I should be able to make time for a sewing day this weekend...as long as I can get drawing homework done...

Um, no? Not kidding. But then, I was in Calder almost all day, and might have missed a blustery hour or three.

Lemme know how the homework goes for you; if you want to get wrapped for a duct tape double, we can do that anywhere--my house, your house, Calder...library...I just need to warn my mom a couple hours ahead of time if you want to come over.

And to be fair, it wasn't windy on the East side of campus, on the leeward side of the ravine or Padnos--on that exposed side by the parking lots, though, brrrr!

I have a plan!

Tell me if you think this works:
I go to campus tomorrow bright and early and get a lot of drawing done before dinner time. You then kindly pick me up from Calder and we sew (or wrap me in duct tape) all evening and I refuse to leave and you graciously put me up for the night. We then get some more quality sewing done Sat morning before you deposit me on campus again and I spend the rest of the day working very hard...

Ummm...this plan could work if it were Saturday and Sunday and not Friday and Saturday. I work every Saturday from 9-4, so nothing gets done til about 5 on Saturday anyway. However, if you wanted to spend Saturday night with me, go to the Campus Ministries service at 10:30 the next morning, and then do some fabric playing that afternoon...that might work? Stupid Hobby Lobby. I've worked every Saturday for over a year now...

Or we could do next weekend, like we talked about over break, where I pick you up from work and just keep you til Sunday afternoon. I haven't had a chance to talk to my mom, but I don't know how she'll feel about having a guest this weekend with so little notice. *shrug* Parents.

Either way would work for me....I guess it's all up to your mom!

Okay. Mom has okayed the plan to pick you up tomorrow afternoon at Calder and bring you back here til Sunday afternoonish, as long as you don't care if the house is a bit messy. I'll clean my room up 'nuff so's you can sleep in it, but we'll have to jockey for room in other parts of the house in terms of sewing space. We can do it, though. :) Guess we're gonna have to go buy duct tape, huh?
