I just updated my site with pictures of my doublet and skirt outfit and put a nice, shiney donation button on my home page. Even though driving is cheaper than Amtrak or a bus, it's still about $70 round trip for gas and tolls. I can take the hit once, or maybe even twice a year, but not the four times it would be if we include semi-finals and the final (assuming I win the semi-final). I have no shame in begging for help in this instance. I have never been the sort of person who would turn down charity...

But for all the lazy sods who don't want to visit my site,  here's a picture that Adrianne took at Bristol.

After coming home I felt like I had just had a birthday...I was tired, but happy, and had all sorts of presents for myself. There was the actual prize thing I got, and I bought four books: Patterns of Fashion (yeah, I didn't have it, I always just checked it out of the library), a book of Irish piano music, and two history books, one on Elizabeth I and one on the War of the Roses. And I also bought a wool gnome who will be one of my objects for intermediate drawing in the winter, and I got a bamboo flute. It's really pretty with a gorgeous sound...it was one of those things that I simply Could Not walk away from. I tried about a dozen flutes for the heck of it, but between each one I'd pick what is now mine back up and play it again. It's in the key of G, so it'll work well for Irish tunes.

I have a lot to do in these next two weeks though. Illustrate a cover for Joseph's book, start the kitchen painting for my Mom, make a proper chemise and coif and hat, and plot with Rebekah. I'll be a busy girl. And naturally, I am schedualed for a lot of extra time at work this week because of the tent sale. I really ought to get off the computer and get cracking!

I love the colors you chose.

I love your site, by the by.
It's on my favorites under "costuming".

That is a lovely doublet and kirtle. Well done on the competition and cross fingers on the semi final and getting there.
I dont suppose you will be at Bristol when [livejournal.com profile] edmndclotworthy and I are there (19th and 20th August).

Actually, I WAS planning on it before this whole contest thing came into play. I've already asked for the 19th off work, and if it comes to choosing between the semi-finals and meeting you, you win. I'm going to be there on the 19th and 20th. (it's why I'm shamelessly begging for money though...I might end up going four times!!!)

Oh, that will be great!!! I can see your doublet in the fabric then!! Yay!!

Thankyou - thats very nice of you.

Is there a costume competition every day of the faire then?

I wouldn't pass up the chance to meet you and Sarah for anything! There are always contests and competitions...you will not always come to Brisol, and neither will Sarah.

Yes, there is a daily costume contest and every three weeks the winners compete in a semi-final, and the three semi winners go to the final on the last day of the faire.

We were discussing our trip with friends in Kentwell and the vague idea appeared about a Kentwell Contingent turning up next year or the year after to Bristol - a big enough group to attract attention as being "different"!!!

Not sure how feasible it would actually be but who knows? We may get a group of 10-15 of us in different social groups (in terms of cossie!).

I have a faint hankering of coming back to the US (San Francisco actually) for the Costume Con in 2008 (I think or 2009?). Not sure yet though.

The first thing I thought when I saw your doublet ('specially on you) was "SHARPE!!!" Which is kinda ironic since it was Sharpe that got you started on costuming. The second thought that came to mind was "Wow!! You look like all those nerdy costumers you showed me on the web when you first started and went 'oooooooooo' and 'aaaaaaah' over". Now you're them....................scary..........

*cough* I'll, ah, take that as a compliment then...

This is belated, but you look really nice! I like that shade of green and the peasant blouse-ish sleeves. :)
