I just updated my site with pictures of my doublet and skirt outfit and put a nice, shiney donation button on my home page. Even though driving is cheaper than Amtrak or a bus, it's still about $70 round trip for gas and tolls. I can take the hit once, or maybe even twice a year, but not the four times it would be if we include semi-finals and the final (assuming I win the semi-final). I have no shame in begging for help in this instance. I have never been the sort of person who would turn down charity...
But for all the lazy sods who don't want to visit my site, here's a picture that Adrianne took at Bristol.

After coming home I felt like I had just had a birthday...I was tired, but happy, and had all sorts of presents for myself. There was the actual prize thing I got, and I bought four books: Patterns of Fashion (yeah, I didn't have it, I always just checked it out of the library), a book of Irish piano music, and two history books, one on Elizabeth I and one on the War of the Roses. And I also bought a wool gnome who will be one of my objects for intermediate drawing in the winter, and I got a bamboo flute. It's really pretty with a gorgeous sound...it was one of those things that I simply Could Not walk away from. I tried about a dozen flutes for the heck of it, but between each one I'd pick what is now mine back up and play it again. It's in the key of G, so it'll work well for Irish tunes.
I have a lot to do in these next two weeks though. Illustrate a cover for Joseph's book, start the kitchen painting for my Mom, make a proper chemise and coif and hat, and plot with Rebekah. I'll be a busy girl. And naturally, I am schedualed for a lot of extra time at work this week because of the tent sale. I really ought to get off the computer and get cracking!

Is there a costume competition every day of the faire then?

Date: 2006-07-11 07:42 pm (UTC)Yes, there is a daily costume contest and every three weeks the winners compete in a semi-final, and the three semi winners go to the final on the last day of the faire.

Date: 2006-07-12 04:53 am (UTC)Not sure how feasible it would actually be but who knows? We may get a group of 10-15 of us in different social groups (in terms of cossie!).
I have a faint hankering of coming back to the US (San Francisco actually) for the Costume Con in 2008 (I think or 2009?). Not sure yet though.
