One of the things is love about work (besides the fact that I love everyone who I work with) is that when it's slow I get to Make Stuff to display. And everyone knows how much I love Making Stuff. The past week has been super quiet, so two days ago I started making the most elaborate doll dress in the history of Field's Fabrics EVER. I'm making a Queen of Hearts dress, mostly renaissance inspired, for an 18" doll. My goal is to make people stop dead and look twice. And so far, the ladies at work are all unanimous in the opinion that it most certainly will. I won't be able to keep it of course, but I will be able to say I made it when people stop to rave.

And in my own sewing land, things are going quite well. I can't really believe it, but I'm still abiding by the schedual I wrote up! The effigy corset is all 'quilted' and now is ready for boning (ie. filling the channels with little bunches of reeds), and I started on the blackwork strips for my chemise/shirt. I did discover however, that due to my gaining nearly fifteen pounds since last summer, there's no WAY a corset will fit under my 'bethan. I barely fit inside it! This means that my excuse for a new outfit is now ironclad. And it means the days of ice cream for breakfast are over. I shall have to start eating toast.

My youngest brother just knocked the remaining half of a peach pie onto the kitchen floor in his attempts to cut himself a slice. I honestly don't understand how that boy does it. Poor, poor peach pie...

I'm horrified of making corsets. Just the thought of having to bone one makes me cringe!

They aren't nearly as difficult as one might think. And it's not the boning that's the time consuming OR hard part, it's the binding. Sewing the binding all around the edges almost takes the joy out of making a corset. But of course, this is coming from the girl who hates hemming and finishing things off in general.
