I was browsing around etsy tonight when I stumbled across a seller that instantly caught my eye.
She was selling a "Custom Civil War" dress... but the image was of the picture from a Simplicity pattern. I couple more popped up, different Simplicity patterns, all 'available in color of your choice' and claimed as custom.
This one, however, made me angry.

It's
koshka_the_cat's 1862 mourning-for-Prince-Albert ballgown. It's a picture of her, with her head cut off, and is labeled as "Civil War Ball Gown Satin Victorian Dress Gown Custom Made" I thought of firing off an email to the seller right away, but it's really late and I'm sure I wouldn't say the right thing.
I just thought Katherine ought to know. There are pictures of other people's dresses too, but I unfortunately don't recognize them.

Date: 2010-02-25 11:26 am (UTC)A little word to Simplicity would get her shut down as she is illegally using their pattern images to advertise her gowns. If she is using their patterns to make the gowns to sell, she is in the wrong.
I just wonder how she can think this sort of thing is ok???

I can't tell if this is an Asian sweatshop or a crafter with a case of dementia - the shop is such an odd mix of costumes and 1970s crochet items.
