Welcome, welcome!

First things first.  My friend Mike, yes, the same Mike who Katie (rvqavalon ) and I are always going to events with, finally succumbed to peer pressure and got a livejournal!  His username is dandytailor and you should all go friend him... after all, how many handsome young men who reenact AND sew all their own costumes AND are on LJ are there? 

(By the by, I don't think I posted about it when he joined almost a year ago, but my other attractive, young reenacting guy friend who makes Really Cool things and sometimes sews cool things too is also on LJ.  That would be the Tyler I sometimes mention, and HIS username is superiorcap .)

In other news, the four of us, Mike, Tyler, Katie and I, will be going to Gettysburg for the annual Remembrance Day event the weekend before Thanksgiving.  I've never been to Gettysburg before and am quite looking forward to it, even in all its tourist-y glory.  Not to mention, any event where we don't camp is always a plus in my books.  ;)  Since it is near the end of November, I'm anticipating it being pretty chilly, and am busy making myself some 1860's outerwear so as not to freeze to death.  I'm making a paletot out of some warm, reddish-brown wool that Katie gave me, and am planning on trimming it with red velvet ribbon.  At the moment the paletot is still at the muslin stage, but I'm happy with the way it's working out so far... if it turns out at planned, I might just use it as my regular coat this winter.  I'm also hoping to get a winter hood done in time... I have two weeks... we'll see what happens!

And what am I not doing?  Writing my personal statement for grad school applications, that's what.  Even typing "grad school applications" sends a chill down my spine and my stomach goes all hollow and turns into a cold lump.  Ridiculous.  Really.  I can do this!
