Random inspiration is random
Mar. 13th, 2009 12:49 amAt the fabric store where I work, we have a section of pretty cheap "designer original" fabrics which rotate fairly quickly season by season and are often completely random. Most of them are so ugly I'm convinced that these so called "designer" fabrics are all the left-overs and rejects from last year, but sometimes there are a couple gems that seemly appear out of nowhere.
For instance, tonight I found really pretty velvet... cream background with large, coral-ish pink scroll patterns all over and tiny little red-brown stripes running across the surface. It's much nicer than it sounds. (I also found a nice green linen for $2 a yard. =) I couldn't possibly let a customer get their hands on it! This, however, is beside the point.)
It, the velvet, would make a perfect robe (and I don't have one and can never find any I like, which makes a robe a perfect project), but all the robe patterns in the big three books were god-awful hideous monstrosities.
So. I am going to make myself a banyan from the pretty, cream+pink velvet, and it will be fabulous and I will not be cold.
(I will, of course, not let myself seriously think about this until my show is over... only three weeks!)
