Mar. 9th, 2008 03:07 pmI blinked and spring break was over.
Not that you could tell it was spring break from the weather. I know it's only the beginning of March, and as such it's never nice outside, but this year it's worse than ever. It's not even pretending to be almost spring... the lingering snow is still fairly deep due to an average temperature of 20 degrees (fahrenheit) and even the occasional sunshine can't do anything against the huge snow-mounds when the air never gets above freezing. Warmth seems like a vague, distant memory. I'm just so tired of it all...
At least break ended WELL. Very, very well in fact. My legs are still sore from dancing yesterday, though that may be more due to my appalling lack of general exercise than to the amount of dancing. The first (hopefully) annual Afternoon in the Park/ Dorks-in-Costume Ball went very, very well and was hugely entertaining. Most of the people there were KatieJacobs' historical interpreter friends from Mackinac plus various GVSU costumey people... there was no specific era set, and there was a whole range of historical and fantasy type get-ups. Katie's friend Julie supplied the food, and it was not only incredible, but there was a LOT. A bunch of us also spent Friday and Saturday nights at Katie's house, practicing dancing, eating more, and watching The Scarlet Pimpernell all lumped together on the living-room floor.
Katie looked like an adorable Little-Bo-Peep in her pink caraco and green petticoat, Julie wore the same regency dress that she had for the ball in Ann Arbor (with impressive cleavage to match), I had on my Elizabethan green doublet outfit, and the boys all looked very sharp. Of course, Mike was as much a dandy as ever, with a bright yellow waistcoat and the most foppish (and fabulous) blue jacket... it was rather obscene... we all badly wanted it.
And now I have to finish that eternal metals project and write some papers for Business for the Artist... what fun I shall have...
