gwendolyngrey: (Blisse_Pout)
I still haven't finished my effigy corset...I seriously feel like the world's slowest sewer on this...and I can't really do anything else until it's done. I definitely underestimated the time it would take to sew on the frickin binding. I've sewn it down while watching both Anne of Green Gables, Dirty Dancing, Terminator 2, and five episodes of Inu Yasha ( I AM allowed a guilty pleasure!) and the binding is still only 3/4 done. I've finished the top and front edges and have half of the bottom done...I'll be able to finish the binding tomorrow for sure...and then I'll just have the eyelets and it'll be a wrap!
I will admit however, that I'm mildly concerned about how it will fit. The muslin fit like a dream, but after filling the channels with reeds, it shrunk a full two inches around. I'm really hoping it'll stretch out after I wear it for a bit, 'cause there's no way I'll have the time (or patience) to alter it.

And the baby-head dress is done. I wore it to work the past couple days, and people almost always look at it twice. I suppose it's the incongruity of having delicately detailed baby heads scattered over a halter topped sundress. It amuses me greatly.

I have come to the conclusion that I detest the use of the word "cute". People use it to describe anything they think looks nice...children (which I can see the use of the word towards), clothes, fabric, dolls, hats, even rugs and lamps! I know that the colloquial vocabulary is appallingly small, but seriously, folks, let's stretch our minds just a little, and not call everything that attracts your eyes cute!
