slay the first idea
Jun. 17th, 2005 01:14 pmI had an epiphany last night.
I've been driving myself nuts trying to find the right blue brocade for my elizabethan and it's been wretched. Blue is NOT a popular color right now, and light blue is the hardest to find of all. So anyway, last night I was sitting at the computer glumly poking around on ebay, and my Mom walked by and asked what I was doing. I told her I was killing myself over the impossible fabric hunt, and she just said, 'then get red' as she walked out the door. I was struck dumb, utterly flabbergasted by the simplicity of her solution. It hadn't even occured to me to look for another color. I should have remembered what Paul (crazy CPS prof) used to tell us about never getting too attached to one idea because chances are, your second and third ideas will be better.
And the thing is, I'm not recreating a dress perfectly, and there's another painting I like from about the same time (Italian also) that has roughly the same style dress, but it's red. Now, I'm not saying that I'll get red instead of blue for sure, but I'm not limiting myself to one color any more. Besides, if I intend to have this dress for Bristol, then I really should order my fabric before the week is out.
