The cool costume meme everyone is doing
Apr. 20th, 2005 07:19 pm1) Which part of the costuming process (from design through production through wearing) do you enjoy the most?
When I first try it on as a mostly-put-together dress/outfit...it's such a magical feeling even though linings and hems aren't done. My breath stops every time.
2) Which part of the costuming process (from design through production through wearing) do you wish you could pay someone else to do for you?
HEMS!!!!! I loathe sewing hems! In fact, I actually have bribed my Mom into doing a hem for me once or twice.
3) You're machine sewing. Shoe on or off?
Always off, in the winter I wear socks cause the pedal is cold, but in the summer I'm always barefoot.
4) For those of you who force a non-sewer to help you, which instruction do they find most confusing that you think should be so obvious?
I haven't had to! I sometimes snag my Mom for help, but she's a pretty good sewer/
5) How do you describe your costuming to non-costumers (ie family, work colleagues, etc.)?
I'm not sure how exactly I describe it, generally it has some reference to spare time and what I'm doing right now or what I do when I get distracted from homework......and my profile on facebook has a link to my website so a bunch of people found out that way. Mostly they all seem to think it's cool and why aren't I doing fashion or costume instead of art.
6) If you had to choose ONE costume era to spend the rest of your life in, what would it be?
What An Aweful Question!!!!! *solemnly* I have reached that time in my life where I cannot make up my mind about an era. I'm sorry, but I simply can NOT decide!!! Er, maybe 1900-1910, or 1560's or mid to late 1700's or bustle ere...you see the problem. Besides, this leaves out movies!
7) Okay now, let's get specific. Gimme birth and death years (ie born in 1860, so that by the time I was 18 and going to balls I'd be wearing natural form dresses...) and place if you choose.
If I pretended to live in the past, I think I'd be born in......darn it! Somewhere from 1850-1870, I think.
8) What is the most godawful costume you've ever made? Post pictures if you've got them.
My bodiced petticoat isn't really a costume persay, but it's definatly in the godawful catagory and no one is seeing pictures of it!
9) What costume do you really really want to make, but feel like you'll never have the skill to really pull off?
I'm don't know (notice a trend?) but I've always wanted a dress covered in embroidery and I don't have the patience for that.
10) What costume era suits you the most (doesn't matter if you like it)?
I haven't tried all the eras I'd like, but I think Regency suits me very well indeed.
11) What costume era would you love to wear that totally doesn't suit you?
I don't think I'd look hideous in anything, but any style that demands an abundance of curves wouldn't be the greatest.
12) What's the weirdest thing anyone has ever said about your costuming/you in costume?
No one's ever said anything really weird...maybe it's cause I'm always hanging out with crazy art kids and costuming dosn't seem very strange to them.
13) What costume movie would you pay good money to have been an extra in?
Titanic. Hands down.
14) What costume movie do you think should be put on the first rocket to the sun?
The 1940 P&P and all Westerns...the costumes in those literally painful to the eyes!
15) Your house is on fire. You have time to grab family and pets, but only one piece of fabric from your stash. What is it?
My stash isn't very big, I don't think I'd bother saving anything, I'd grab my actual costumes instead.
16) An eccentric millionaire gives you money to fly anywhere in the world so that you can have pictures taken of you in costume. What specific location do you go to?
Ooooooo, England and Ireland and Italy!!!!
