I finally saw Black Adder... or is it Blackadder... I'm not quite sure how to spell it...

Anyway!  I watched the first two seasons/series in nearly one go, and have been completely hooked.  There was definitely a light-bulb moment when I realized that THAT'S why everyone and their neighbor told me to see it (or was shocked that I hadn't already).  I instantly copied the second season for my own future enjoyment, and fully intend to hunt down the next two before break is over.

The theme song is firmly stuck in my head now though, and it'll be ages before I'll get it out.  At least it's better than Loch Lomond which was running over and over inside my head for the past week and a bit and which I don't even LIKE.

And on a slightly related note, KatieJacobs came over last night (armed with sewing and a stack of movies... including Blackadder, which is where I got it from and which ties both paragraphs together nicely), and helped me take pictures of my Regency corset that I made over Christmas break.  I wore it with the chemise that I made the other week.  And in a fit of productivity I updated my website with it that very night after Katie left!

More pictures and a bit of write-up are here.

My regency stays are SO close to being done that it's really hard to make myself do those last final things.  I simply must finish them tomorrow though.  Christmas break is almost over, and I only have four weekends before the 1820 dress has to be done.  And I'm not nearly as far on Rebekah's dress as I had wanted to be at this point... I'm not afraid that things won't be done on time, but I had wanted to get a LOT done over break.  Even though I wasn't lazy, I wasn't on fire either.  However, first thing tomorrow I will be pounding grommets (passed deadlines means no pretty handbound eyelets) and then I will have at least completely finished one thing over break.  Christmas presents don't really count, but I did make a hat, a shirt, a pillow, and KatieJacobs' gift (which STILL isn't done...).  I also muslin-ed Rebekah's dress and made a pair of stays.  That's not too shabby for three weeks in which I also had to work a LOT.

I love it when Beky plays her guitar and sings... it makes this place seem so much more homey.  She's quite good at it too, and several of her songs always make me want to cry even when she practices them over and over.  She worries sometimes that I might get fed up with her playing so many the same songs over and over again, but I never do.

I think she thinks I'm a little bit crazy when it comes to costuming though.  She doesn't mind me sewing and making a mess, but she thinks it's  absurd that I put so much time into making things that "no one will see" (re. my stays).
It was so funny the other night when Mike McCarty and KatieJacobs ([profile] rvqavalon) were over and we were all sewing and watching "Casanova" and Beky was watching it with us.  Beky would occasionally give us very peculiar looks, and when the movie was almost over she suddenly exclaimed that the three of us mentioned such different things during a movie than any of her other friends. She and her friends "comment on the literary qualities of the script, or the believability of a line, or the change within a character; while you guys [me, Mike, and Katie] talk about stuff like undergarments and the color of blush and whether or not they used prosthetics for his belly and... and.... production values!"   We were all vastly amused.

My morning (and early afternoon) has been pleasantly spent making and fitting a muslin for a new Regency corset.  While it's nice to finally be able to make something for myself again, I'm finding it terribly difficult to settle on ONE idea for my corset.  I don't want to do cording... no, I really DO want cording... the seams should go here and the seams should go there... I should have a wide gap in the back, then it should be narrow.

At the moment, I have a well fitting muslin, and have told myself firmly that I am sticking to the current seam placement.  Now I just have to finalize the cording layout... I have a fairly good idea of what I want though, and I'll try very hard not to let my imagination run away with itself.

My family isn't getting together until tomorrow, so I have the whole day and the empty apartment to myself.  Hopefully I'll be able to stay motivated and get a lot accomplished today.  The plan is to finish Beky's present, work on KatieJacob's present, cut out the "real" fabric for my Regency corset, and start work on Rebekah's dance dress.  We'll see how that works out!
